Do pro-social video games promote moral activity?: an analysis of user reviews of Papers, Please

Abstract Video games are the digital entertainment resource most in demand by young people, which has led an increasing number of education experts to study their possible benefits. In particular, this research, we set out identify potential ‘Papers, Please’ promote moral learning. Thus, have tried those objectives that go beyond success video game and could favor For purpose, investigated what types discourses arise from playing Please’, a where you adopt role customs inspector totalitarian state who must obtain necessary money fund family. To do this, analyzed content 1,560 player reviews. Results showed only 4.94% reviews presented Moral Intuitions (moral content), occurred more players had played longer declared Negative Emotions. As for analysis Intuitions, results mainly made references Care both Family Immigrants point Authority State. However, Fairness/Cheating is less represented, despite many events related Immigrant discrimination. Through Exploratory Factor Analysis, identified three dimensions, one them pragmatic, oriented game, others aimed at epistemic aspects delve into events. Hence, although spontaneous use toward pragmatic goals, can guide think about morality game. Nevertheless, if want learning with it goals explicitation underlies end, propose application scaffolding favors these objectives.
